Every year in the month of January the awesome festival of Ati-Atihan is celebrated – in honor of the Santo Niño (Infant Jesus). The name “Ati-Atihan” actually means “to be like Aetas” or “make believe Ati’s. The original story goes something like this – in the 13th century there was a group of 10 Malay Chiefs who settled in Philippines – and were given the plain region for the same by the local Ati people – sometimes later when famine struck these Malay settlers helped the Ati people – so this event is celebrated by singing and dancing. In this festival there is tribal dance in traditional attire – which is an awesome sight for the tourists.(Image Source)
